Desert Mountain is not just a golf community. The Sonoran Clubhouse facilities were added in 1993 to complement the Club's golf facilities. The Sonoran Clubhouse amenities include tennis on three surfaces (grass, clay and hard), a pro shop, two swimming pools, a fully-equipped fitness center, locker room facilities including sauna and steam baths, and a casual dining facility. Multiple Ownership Choices:
Many Desert Mountain buyers select custom home sites. There is no time requirement to build. The other alternative is a cottage, patio or semi-custom luxury home made available by the developer. These homes range in size from approximately 2,300 to 4,050 square feet. 

Pleasant Year-Round Climate:
The Scottsdale area is famous for its perpetual sunshine and blue-sky forecasts. The area has one of the highest percentages of annual sunshine in the country - higher than that of Honolulu, Los Angeles and Miami. It's no secret that winter visitors flock to Scottsdale to enjoy the pleasant weather during the dead of winter. As an example, the Phoenix Open in January is one of the most well-attended PGA golf events in the country! 

Phoenix has a reputation for being very hot during the summer, and it's certainly true that summer high temperatures consistently top 100 degrees. However, circumstances in Phoenix during the summer don't extend to Desert Mountain. Here's why:

  • Situated in the foothills in northeast Scottsdale, Desert Mountain's elevation ranges from approximately 2,500 to 4,800 feet above sea level. This elevation allows Desert Mountain's air temperature to be 8 to 10 degrees cooler than Phoenix throughout the summer. Summer highs are usually in the mid to upper 90's; overnight summer lows are typically in the high 60's and low 70's.
  • The "apparent" temperature is a combination of air temperature and humidity, and Desert Mountain has very low humidity during the summer. For example, a summer day in Atlanta would typically have a 90-degree air temperature and a humidity level of 70%, creating a high Heat Stress Index (HSI) of 106 degrees. The corresponding humidity level at Desert Mountain would be a dry 20%, resulting in a comfortable 87-degree reading on the HSI. These circumstances allow year-round Desert Mountain residents to enjoy favorable weather and climate on a continuous basis.

Experienced Developers:
Desert Mountain is owned and operated by Desert Mountain Properties, a joint venture between a sister company of Crescent Real Estate Equities, and Sonora Partners, one of a number of companies under the direction and control of Lyle Anderson, an internationally renowned luxury community developer. 

The Desert Mountain Club's membership structure is an important consideration when buying a home site or home at Desert Mountain. Desert Mountain has enhanced its position among world-class recreational communities with its "Deferred Equity Membership Plan". The term "deferred equity" relates to the Club's eventual turnover from the developer to the members. 

Perhaps the single most outstanding feature of the Plan is the Deferred Equity member's ability to guarantee all future purchasers of his or her Desert Mountain home or home site that, so long as they own such property, future purchasers can buy and enjoy the equivalent membership. This guarantee applies as long as there is an "unbroken chain" of resale buyers who, at each successive property transfer, acquire the comparable level of membership held by the seller.

 Other Important Deferred Equity Membership Plan Features   Note that these change all of the time...call me for more information. 

Note that the golf membership has a contingent liability not to exceed $40,000 should the golf members decide to purchase some additional acreage from the developer.  The Golf Membership owners have a first right of refusal on the acreage.

No one knows when this will be decided....call me on this one, as well.

  • The Deferred Equity Golf members may use all of the golf, tennis, swimming and social facilities of the Club. They currently pay golf cart fees but no green fees. Deferred Equity Golf memberships are capped at 475 per golf course; each Golf member may use all five Jack Nicklaus Signature courses and all other amenities of the Club.
  • The Deferred Equity Club members may use all of the tennis, swimming, fitness, spa, dining and social facilities, and have golf playing privileges, on a fee-paying basis, of twenty rounds per year (up to eight of which may be in season). Deferred Equity Club memberships are capped at 125 per golf course.
  • The Deferred Equity Golf membership contribution is currently $325,000. This value is included in the prices at which Desert Mountain Properties sells its custom home sites and luxury homes. The Deferred Equity Club membership contribution is currently $50,000; the custom home site or home price would be reduced by $175,000 if a buyer prefers having a Club membership.
  • Monthly dues for 2005 are around $600.00 for the Golf membership and around $250.00 for the Club membership.

The Desert Mountain Club is the only private club in the country that offers five Jack Nicklaus Signature courses. The five 18-hole golf courses provide a wide and varied range of golf experiences for Desert Mountain property owners who are members of The Desert Mountain Club. The Renegade course opened in 1987, the Cochise course opened in 1988 and, in 1989, the Geronimo course was opened. The Apache course opened in January 1996. A fifth Signature course, Chiricahua, opened in March, 1999.

Each year, the Cochise course is the site for THE COUNTRYWIDE TRADITION at Desert Mountain, one of the Senior PGA Tour's "major" championships and part of the Senior Slam. Jack Nicklaus has won the trophy four times, including back-to-back championships in 1995 and 1996.

The Sonoran Clubhouse, a 19,000-square-foot family activity center with city light views, is set in the center of the Desert Mountain community. It offers members hard, clay and grass tennis courts; a playground; an adult pool; and a combination activity/lap pool.

The clubhouse also contains a full-service restaurant, a bar/lounge, a tennis pro shop, men's and ladies locker rooms, a fitness center with cardiovascular and weight training equipment, an aerobics room, and facilities for massages and facials.

The Sonoran Clubhouse received the 1994 Court of the Year Award from Tennis Industry Magazine and the 1995 Environmental Excellence Crescordia Award from Valley Forward.

The award-winning Cochise/Geronimo Clubhouse of The Desert Mountain Club, designed by Bob Bacon, is an architectural masterpiece showcasing breathtaking mountain sunsets and city light views and blending aesthetically into the natural scenery.

The Cochise/Geronimo Clubhouse offers members attractive and spacious women's and men's locker facilities, dining rooms, golf shop, steam and massage rooms, a renowned art collection and extensive member services.
