Many like a North/South orientation, but that really depends on where you want the sun and at what time of day! I like an East/West orientation because I like the morning sun and like to enjoy my back patio (in the shade) in the afternoon. A lot depends on the roof over-hang and how far it extends. I also tell clients to purchase the property, first, then design the home for the property. You have no ideal of how many people do it the other way around.
